We don't believe in fast furniture here in OB. Only stocking pieces that you could love forever is a big part of what we do. Whether that means giving some vintage pieces a new home or finding the perfect modern piece to inject happiness into your home, making sure that the Oriana B. look has longevity is what we hope we do best! Let's explore why some pieces just stand the test of time and what you should look for when buying.
Buying Vintage
There is no doubt that there has been a decline in general quality of furniture manufacture as time moves on and while we try to only source the best modern pieces we will always use vintage as our yard stick. Furniture was created with such craftsmanship that these pieces have survived decades, sometimes more, being lugged from home to home and sometimes becoming heirlooms.
We look for signs of this craftsmanship when buying vintage. Details such as dovetail joins in drawers will let you know that these pieces are sturdy and made with integrity.
We don't subscribe to being slaves to a label but there is no doubt that certain makers are well known for the quality and durability of their pieces. Look out for names like Farstrup, Holmquist and Buch when buying Scandinavian pieces, and closer to home design houses like Crannac and Brendan Dunne are well regarded for their quality and seminal design.
Buying Modern
We curate our modern collection with the same vision as our vintage; pieces should be bought with the view of keeping it forever. This means that every piece should have integrity in design and construction. When buying wood we like to use sustainable materials like mango and acacia, avoiding veneers and plastic overlays where possible. Better yet we like to invest in metal pieces that are constructed in a single piece with clever engineering.
We also like to stick with classic designs and try not to be too influenced by trends. While it is nice to have trendy elements, it should not be at the forefront of your mind when buying! Ask yourself, will this trend be the tramp stamp of furniture?! Instead try to stick with modern takes on classical shapes like wooden frame armchairs.
